A motorcyclist has been taken to Mareeba hospital after a collision with a car just before noon today on Byrnes Street.
A police spokesperson said, "The Motorcyclist was headed in a northbound direction near the BP Truckstop at 319 Byrnes Street and when he collided with a car."
Its believed the car was coming out of a driveway when the accident happened.
The 50-year-old male motorcyclist was taken to Mareeba Hospital in a serious condition with significant leg injuries and was later airlifted to Cairns Hospital.
The 24-year-old male driver of the car was assisting police with their inquiries.
Forensic crash investigators were on their way, Byrnes Street was closed and detours were in place at Lerra and Peters Street.
