Tablelands residents are being given their chance to find out more and have their say on a proposed new wind farm for Far North Queensland.
RATCH-Australia is investigating the potential of land 13km north of Ravenshoe to host a wind farm comprising of 18 turbines.
Tablelands Regional Council originally granted development approval for the High Road Wind Farm in 2011 but the project was not built, the High Road project is located off Tumoulin Road, Evelyn
According to RATCH-Australia “Wind turbine technology has advanced since then and we are now considering applying to the Queensland Government for permission to build turbines measuring up to 150m to the tip of the blades.”
“There would also be opportunities for local businesses to win valuable contracts and for local people to secure jobs.
“During construction for the Mount Emerald Wind Farm outside Walkamin, (which is larger than this proposal), more than 1,000 people were signed on to the project with more than 300 workers on site at the busiest time.”
Project Manager Terry Johannesen, said: “As the owner and operator of the Mount Emerald and Windy Hill Wind Farms, we know this area has excellent potential to generate much-needed clean power.
“But before we complete detailed technical and environmental studies, we want to know what local people think of the project.
“We are especially keen to hear from local businesses and people with the skills we need, as well as from anyone with ideas for how a Community Fund should operate.”
The wind farm’s anticipated output is around 200 million KWh per annum – equivalent to the needs of 30,000 homes
