Mareeba Coles raises $500 to support sick children
Mareeba Coles has been able to raise $500 as a part of their fundraising appeal for Hummingbird House due to the compassion of local shoppers and team members.
Mareeba Coles has been able to raise $500 as a part of their fundraising appeal for Hummingbird House due to the compassion of local shoppers and team members.
The impressive fundraising efforts by the Mareeba community have contributed to a record breaking total of $550,000 raised across the state in just four weeks.
For every 12 pack of biscuits that was bought by a customer at Mareeba Coles, 5c was donated to Hummingbird House with Mareeba Coles raising their $500 from the biscuits alone.
This money will help Hummingbird House continue to provide short break stays, family support services, creative therapies and care for children with life-limiting conditions and their families.
Mareeba Coles Store Manager Andrew McIntosh said that he was proud of his team for raising so much money to go towards Hummingbird House.
“It’s great for the community and for Hummingbird House with the community being able to get behind the biscuits and the donations at the registers,” he said.
“It’s good for a small community like Mareeba to be able to assist.
“Every store in the state gets involved with Hummingbird House and they fundraise in their own ways.”
Hummingbird House General Manager Dr Fiona Hawthorne said she was thrilled with the generosity shown by Queensland shoppers during these challenging times.
“Virtual programs that have been introduced at the House in response to COVID include morning teas, art therapy and music therapy sessions,” she said.
“These programs ensure our families feel supported even if they’re unable to visit Hummingbird House due to travel restrictions or distance related challenges.
