TEENAGERS and parents on the Tablelands will get the chance to sit down and listen to one of Australia’s most successful and respected youth specialists as he brings his Motov8 seminars to the region.
Motov8 is about inspiring, informing and instructing people on how to make smarter and more informed decisions and at the start next month, they will be in Atherton delivering these sessions.
Motov8ing Boys and Savage Angels are the two seminars that Founder and Director of Motov8 John McMahon will be bringing to the Tablelands.
One session is geared towards boys and their parents/guardians and the other towards girls and their parents/ guardians.
Mr McMahon worked in schools for many years wanting to inspire and influence a much greater audience.
Drawing on his own experiences as a trouble child with drugs, gangs and attempted suicide, Mr McMahon grounds the subject and bring the onus back on the kids.
“A mentor helped turned my life around, invested in me and gave me an opportunity to work with young people, that’s where it started,” he said.
“I’m the wakeup call, people change in life for two reasons either they see the writing on the wall themselves and do something or crisis is what brings it.
“I bring the crisis in their world instead of it being delayed by 12 or 18 months, I encourage parents to bring it to the front now, to deal with it now.”
Since starting 11 years ago McMahon has presented these sessions all around Australia in some of our biggest cities, selling out venues.
“This isn’t a pop or positive psychology session this is in your face, it’s direct, I tackle issues, anxiety, stress, depression, suicidal thoughts, manipulative behavior and parenting,” Mr McMahon said.
"There are no punches held, own your stuff so we can actually start working on it.
“I’m trying to get young people to wake up to the fact that they walk themselves into mental health disorders, that it’s not the world, it’s not society, it’s their choices.
“My plan is to influence millions across Australia, New Zealand and across the planet.”
The Motov8ing Boys session will be held on June 7 at the Atherton International Club with the Savage Angels session taking place the next day at the same venue.
