New exhibit showcases Ravenshoe WWII history
A NEW exhibition covering Ravenshoe’s WWII history was opened in December 2020 by Tablelands Regional Councillor Annette Haydon.
A NEW exhibition covering Ravenshoe’s WWII history was opened in December 2020 by Tablelands Regional Councillor Annette Haydon.
The WWII exhibition hasbeen created inside the Ravenshoe Visitor Centre and hasmany different WWII items andmemorabilia that is area specific to Ravenshoe.
WWII was a significant period for many areas across theTablelands and its mark can still be seen today with almost 40,000 troops being stationed on the Tablelands at one time.
Councillor Hayden was happy to open the exhibit as her family has personal ties to thememorabilia that is being displayed.
“The display is especially important to me because my mother has shared my father’s uniform and other personal memorabilia,” she said.
“He was one of the many men from this area who served in Papua New Guinea.
“This small exhibit reminds the community and visitors about our history and provides an enduring link to our past.”
The visitor centre, located at 24 Moore St, Ravenshoe, isopen seven days a week to allow locals and visitors alike toshare in the history of Ravenshoe.
