Putting the freeze on ice

IN an effort to keep children on the right path, the Australian Anti-Ice Campaign (AAIC) attended local schools last week to educate students on the very real dangers of using “ice” and other illicit substances.

The workshop, sponsored by Mareeba Toyota, saw the AAIC attend Dimbulah State School, St Stephens Catholic College and Mareeba State High School with recovered addict Andre’a Simmons as the guest speaker.

The workshop focused on the dangers of methamphetamines, more commonly known as “meth” or “ice”, and how it can ruin lives and cause addiction.

Andre’a spoke to the students about her previous struggles with addiction and how it can happen all too easily.

She educated and warned students about the various poisons used to create the drug and how real the struggles of addiction can be, reminding them that the best decision they can ever make is to avoid this destructive drug at all costs.

Students received an informative pamphlet and a rubber bracelet saying “AAIC, putting the freeze on ice”.
