Relocation date set for library
THE existing Mareeba Library on Byrnes Street will close its doors to the public for the last time on Saturday, August 7, before reopening at the new Cedric Davies Community Hub on Anzac Avenue.
THE existing Mareeba Library on Byrnes Street will close its doors to the public for the last time on Saturday, August 7, before reopening at the new Cedric Davies Community Hub on Anzac Avenue.
The new library will feature more space, dedicated learning areas and special levels of service, not previously accessible and will open to the public on Monday, August 16.
With ample off -street parking, a coffee station, meeting room, a room for patrons to read and relax, increased public computer booking capacity, and wi-fi access throughout, MSC Mayor Angela Toppin encourages all members of the community to visit the new library.
Mayor Toppin said that the closure had been delayed from the original date due to the size of the relocation.
“Library staff have worked to ensure that the move is completed as quickly as possible and means that library patrons will experience all the benefits of the new site,” she said.
“There is also an area of the library dedicated to young people, bequeathed by Laurie Tracona, which will feature a collection of youth books and library items, a gaming console, television and study area.
“Library staff are encouraging our library users to borrow resources ahead of time or to make use of the extensive online collection during the closure.”
