Santa visits Mareeba Hospital

SANTA made a special visit to the Mareeba Hospital last week as he heard from many of the kids about what they wanted for Christmas.

A seat was reserved for Santa last Thursday for the hospital’s annual Christmas Open Day run in the Maternity Unit and Community Health areas of the hospital.

Gifts were donated from an anonymous and very generous community member, Teeze Cakes provided cupcakes, Uniquely Made XO made up an amazing balloon garland to spruce up the hospital, and Mareeba Mothers and Midwives Alliance MMAMA supported with fundraising and donations.

The long-standing event has run for well over 20 years and is a major talking point for hospitals and workers all across the Cairns and Hinterlands Hospital and Health Service.

Nurse Unit Manager Michelle Bombardieri said the event had been going on for many years and was truly community focused.

“We invite all the families from the community who have visited our ward during the year and previous years. It’s a great time to catch up and share stories,” she said.

The team were also joined by some elf helpers from Sorella Hair and Beauty who painted faces and temporary tattoos to families and staff.
