Search for man

A search and rescue operation is underway to locate a man missing from Tinaroo Dam in Yungaburra since yesterday, April 13.

Emergency services were called just after 3.30pm following reports a 62-year-old man had failed to resurface after swimming out to assist two children on kayaks.

The children made it safely to shore.

Assets deployed to assist in the search yesterday include police on foot, Cairns Water Police, QGAIR Rescue 510 helicopter, and QFD Swift Water Rescue crews.

The search continued until approximately 8pm overnight and reconvened at first light this morning.

The search is ongoing today utilising police including water police and the dive squad along with SES volunteers, and QFD Swift Water Rescue crews.
