The 25-student school near Malanda were the winners of the Queensland Junior Landcare Award in 2023 and 2024, and they have once again done their part to keep the school and local environment clean and healthy. The students completed an emu parade of the school grounds, and surrounds, picking up rubbish.

“We are a little school, but we have big plans,” teaching principal Eleanor McKay said.

“This year the school again partnered with Malanda Landcare, TRC Revegetation Nursery and the local dairy farmer for the creek revegetation project.

“Students, staff, parents, local agencies and community members planted along the bank of Butchers Creek and the school boundary fence to create a rainforest pocket as a sanctuary for animals in the area.”
