SSCC officially opens Holy Spirit Centre
After being constructed a year ago Saint Stephen’s Catholic College (SSCC) was able to officially open their new The Holy Spirit Centre last Thursday with a special parade and blessing ceremony.
After being constructed a year ago Saint Stephen’s Catholic College (SSCC) was able to officially open their new The Holy Spirit Centre last Thursday with a special parade and blessing ceremony.
Due to the Centre being finished in the midst of last year’s COVID lockdown the opening ceremony had to be postponed until restrictions were lifted.
The new Centre features a sporting hall with pull out grandstands for parades, an auditorium, commercial kitchen, staff offices and an impressive foyer with display cabinets.
The $7 million project drew elements from other school halls across Queensland in its construction to ensure that SSCC was building a top-quality facility for its students and staff.
SSCC Busines Manager Hayden Flynn visited many schools throughout Queensland to inspect existing school halls in preparation for The Holy Spirit Centre’s construction.
“We have incorporated the best elements of existing multi-purpose centres to create an impressive space with functionality and purpose,” he said.
“It certainly is an exciting time for the St Stephen’s community, it is all geared to enhancing student experience to create an environment for quality teaching and learning.”
The Holy Spirit Centre was originally commissioned under past SSCC Principal Ida Pinese before she retired in 2019.
New SSCC Principal Kerry Manders is excited for the Centre to be officially opened and for students to continue to use its facilities.
“The Holy Spirit Centre will serve as a centerpiece for all the major college events,” she said.
“The College was founded 15 years ago and The Holy Spirit Centre is the largest self-funded project to date.
“We are very proud of our community and previous leaders who have been able to position us in such a way as to undertake this huge project.”
The Holy Spirit Centre was the last project on SSCC’s first Masterplan that was designed in 2005.
SSCC is now working on their second approved Masterplan with a further eight building projects to complete over the long term.
The next event to be held in The Holy Spirit Centre will be an International Women’s Day Breakfast on March 8 followed by SSCC’s Open Evening on March 11.
